Williams Racing have confirmed that Team Principal James Vowles has signed a new long-term contract to extend his stay at the helm of the team. This announcement comes shortly after the Canadian Grand Prix, as the British team looks to continue its push for a return to championship-winning form.
Vowles, who joined Williams ahead of the 2023 season from Mercedes, where he had served as Motorsport Strategy Director for four years, has played a pivotal role in reshaping the team. With a career spanning over two decades, Vowles has held key engineering and strategy positions at Mercedes, Brawn GP, Honda, and BAR.
Since taking the reins at Williams, the Briton – only the team’s third Team Principal in their 48-year history – has been focused on reviving the outfit’s fortunes, particularly after Dorilton Capital’s acquisition of the team in 2020. His leadership has been central to the team’s revitalisation, as they work towards returning to the front of the grid.
In 2025, Williams have enjoyed their strongest start to a season since 2016. With drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz consistently securing points, the Grove-based squad currently sits in fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Their points tally of 55 so far this season already surpasses the total points they scored across the previous three seasons combined.

This iconic team has already given me some incredible memories, and we are all united in our ambition to build on our legacy and win World Championships again.
