James Blake has asked to be removed from the producer credits on Ye’s new album, ‘Bully’, following the release of the project.
The English musician, who has collaborated with artists such as Beyoncé, Rosalía and Bon Iver, was credited on the closing track, ‘This One Here’, alongside Don Toliver and Quentin Miller.
Blake explained on his social platform Vault that while he contributed to early versions of the track, the final release differs significantly from his original production.
“The spirit of my actual production is mostly absent,” he wrote. “Happy for the fans but I’ve asked to be taken off the producer credits for now as I don’t want to take credit for other people’s work.”
He added that his decision is not personal, but reflects a desire not to be credited for music where he had limited control over the final result.
Blake previously collaborated with Ye on 2024’s ‘Vultures 1’, a joint album with Ty Dolla Sign. The song was originally titled ‘SHOWTIME’ and was part of a scrapped collaborative project between the two artists.
Ye’s 12th studio album, Bully, also marks the end of a controversial period for the rapper, who apologised in January in a Wall Street Journal essay for months of antisemitic behaviour, citing a bipolar diagnosis following a 2002 car accident.
