Jamaat-e-Islami has formally requested permission from the Election Commission to broadcast a speech by the party’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, on state-run television and radio.
The party said Shafiqur Rahman will address the nation on 9 February at 9pm, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum on the “July Charter.”
Jamaat submitted the application to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Tuesday, seeking simultaneous transmission of the speech on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar.
In a press release on Wednesday, Jamaat’s Senior Publicity Assistant Mujibul Alam said the party is committed to meeting the expectations and aspirations of the people as a responsible political organisation. He added that the speech is part of the party’s election campaign.
The party expressed hope that the CEC will approve the request promptly and take necessary measures to ensure the speech is aired at the scheduled time.
The 13th national election is scheduled for 12 February, the same day as the referendum on the implementation of the “July Charter.”
