Police have arrested Sharifuddin Rimon, 60, general secretary of the Daulatpur upazila unit of the Awami League, in a sabotage case in Kushtia.
Rimon was arrested from a rented house in the Police Lines area of Kushtia town on Monday morning, Kushtia Police Superintendent Md Aminul Islam confirmed.
According to police, a case was filed in February last year over allegations of sabotage at Pragpur Bazar in Pragpur union of Daulatpur upazila. Rimon was arrested in connection with the case.
Rimon, son of late Suzauddin of Philipnagar union in Daulatpur upazila, served as general secretary of the Daulatpur upazila Awami League.
“Detective Police have arrested the leader of the banned organisation in a sabotage case. He will be sent to jail through the court this afternoon,” Police Superintendent Md Aminul Islam told TIMES of Bangladesh.
