Fortis FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club in their opening Federation Cup match on Tuesday, failing to build on their impressive start to the Bangladesh Football League season.
Fortis had opened their league campaign with a commanding 6-0 victory over newcomers Chittagong City FC, but they were unable to claim all three points in Gopalganj.
The top-flight side took the lead after 11 minutes when Insan found the net. However, Young Men’s Club remained in the contest and eventually drew level through Tamim Hossain Anik in the 72nd minute.
Young Men’s Club had already made an encouraging start to their league campaign, beating Dhaka Wanderers Club 2-1 in their opening BFL fixture. They added another strong result by holding Fortis, one of the more competitive teams in domestic football, to a draw.
The Federation Cup’s opening day was also affected by schedule changes. Three matches had initially been planned for Tuesday, but two were postponed following requests from Abahani and Brothers Union.
The Brothers Union-Rahmatganj clash in Manikganj and Abahani’s meeting with Chittagong City FC in Munshiganj have both been moved to Wednesday.
