Bangladesh’s contracted male and female cricketers have joined the World Cricketers Association’s (WCA) global commercial programme, the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) announced.

The Bangladesh players have joined international cricketers from 17 of the world’s top 19 cricket-playing nations in the programme.

The initiative aims to protect players’ collective commercial rights, including their names, images, likenesses and other related rights. It will also create new earning opportunities for cricketers, including benefits linked to globally licensed merchandise.

Meanwhile, CWAB president Mohammad Mithun has been appointed as a director of the WCA. He will serve on the WCA board alongside leaders of other player associations and independent directors.

Mithun’s appointment ensures Bangladesh’s players have representation at the highest level of global cricket player representation, while also giving them an opportunity to contribute to the organisation.

The WCA is led by chairperson Heath Mills, president Lisa Sthalekar, chief executive officer Tom Moffat, independent director Sana Mir and WCA Asia regional head Imran Ahmed Khan.
