Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher on Tuesday said the Narayanganj Development Authority (NDA) has been formed to ensure planned urban development and improve civic services for residents.
“Urban development activities in Narayanganj will be carried out under a special plan alongside the existing master plan of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK),” he said.
The minister made the remarks at a discussion following the inauguration of the NDA office.
He said several initiatives have been taken to improve RAJUK’s service delivery system since the current government took office.
“Although RAJUK covers a large area, it did not have sufficient manpower in proportion to its size,” he said.
Zakaria said the Gazipur Development Authority and the NDA were formed to reduce pressure on Dhaka and ensure faster services at the local level.
He said the possibility of bringing the Fatullah area under NDA’s jurisdiction by rearranging existing boundaries is also being examined.
The minister added that the process of digitising all RAJUK activities is underway to make services more dynamic, efficient, easier and faster.
NDA Chairman Masukul Islam Rajib chaired the inaugural programme. Narayanganj lawmakers, representatives of the city corporation and district administration, among others, attended the event.
