Jamaat-e-Islami Shafiqul Rahman has reaffirmed his party’s commitment to establishing a just and equitable society in line with the principles of Islam.
Speaking at a public rally organised by the 11-party alliance at the Jhalakathi Government Boys’ High School field on Friday, Shafiqur Rahman declared that justice for all citizens, without compromise, is the party’s foremost objective.
He went on to criticise the current judicial system, alleging that, since the country’s independence, there has been a growing culture of impunity and inequality. The jamaat ameer accused the judiciary of being heavily influenced by money and political power.
“We seek a judicial system where both the powerful and the ordinary citizens are treated equally under the law. Even the prime minister will not be spared if they commit a crime,” he asserted.
Shafiqur Rahman also addressed issues of corruption and money laundering, accusing individuals of illicitly transferring large sums of public money abroad.
He described this as an act of theft from the people of Bangladesh and vowed to lead a movement to bring back the stolen wealth. “This money belongs to the people, and we will fight to return it,” he declared.
On the subject of development, the Jamaat leader promised to prioritise the nation’s most neglected areas, ensuring equitable development across all regions.
“We will focus on developing the areas that have been left behind and build a society free from discrimination,” he stated.
Turning to the youth, Shafiqur Rahman emphasised the importance of creating job opportunities rather than offering unemployment benefits.
He called on young people to stay alert in protecting their voting rights and to play an active role in shaping the nation’s future.
He also stressed the importance of women’s safety, promising to create a Bangladesh where women can live freely and securely. “We want a country where our mothers and sisters are safe and their dignity is guaranteed,” he said.
The rally, which drew a significant crowd, was presided over by the District Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Advocate Hafizur Rahman.
Moazzem Hossain Helal, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, and Mostafizur Rahman Iran, chairman of the Bangladesh Labour Party, also addressed the rally, among others.
