Jahidul Islam, president of the central committee of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, urged all political parties to unite and end confrontational politics and mud-slinging to advance the nation’s progress.
“We no longer want politics driven by murder, extortion, or land-grabbing in Bangladesh. We will not bow to any form of fascism. The country needs liberal and constructive politics. By nurturing talented students as national resources, Bangladesh can become a developed nation,” he said.
Jahidul Islam made the remarks on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at a student and youth rally held at Swadhinata Prangan ground in Gaibandha district town.
He urged the youth to take an active role in national development and stressed that the country’s talented students should be fully engaged in building the state. “If politics based on obstruction and short-term gains continues, corrupt forces will rise again. For the country’s interest, all political parties must work together,” he added.
The rally was presided over by Md Faisal Kabir Rana, assistant secretary of Gaibandha district unit Jamaat-e-Islami. Other speakers included Dr Abdur Rahim, member of Jamaat-e-Islami Central Majlis Shura; District Ameer Abdul Karim; Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer and freedom fighter Abdul Wares; Nayeb-e-Ameer Majedur Rahman Majed; and Nayeb-e-Ameer Principal Nazrul Islam Lebu, along with other leaders and activists of Jamaat and its affiliated organizations.
The programme concluded with a march from Swadhinata Prangan with participants parading through key streets of the town.
Earlier in the day, Jahidul Islam also attended the freshers’ reception programme for first-year honours students, organised by the Gaibandha Government College unit of Chhatra Shibir as the chief guest.
