To spread the spirit of the Liberation War among the new generation during the great month of victory and to build a knowledge-based and humane society, the Bangladesh Pustak Prokashok O Bikreta Samity (BAPUS) is going to organise the “Bijoy Book Fair 2025”.
In a press release on Thursday, BAPUS said that the fair will begin on 10 December at the Bangla Academy premises and will continue until 22 December.
The fair will run every day from 2pm to 8pm.
On holidays, it will run from 11am to 9pm. The formal inauguration will take place at 4pm on 10 December.
The organisers have said that this is not merely a commercial event for buying and selling books; rather, it is a historic step towards fostering the nation’s intellectual development and thoughtfulness.
Around 200 publishing houses of the country will participate in this year’s fair. Through special arrangements for children, screenings of Liberation War documentaries, traditional music, and direct interaction between writers and readers, the fair will become a vibrant festival and gathering for Bengalis.
At the press conference, BAPUS outlined its long-term plans regarding the country’s publishing industry and the creation of readers.
They expressed their commitment to taking books beyond the confines of cities and into homes in villages and educational institutions.
To that end, it was announced that book fairs will be organised in 2026 in the country’s 64 districts, as well as in various schools, colleges, and universities.
Alongside this, initiatives have been taken to organise the “International Children’s Book Fair” and the “South-East Asia International Book Fair” in May 2026 to promote Bangladesh’s literature and culture on the international stage.
Speakers at the press conference included Razzak Rubel, joint coordinator of the National Committee for Celebrating the Bijoy Book Fair and publisher of Gronthik Prokashon.
The meeting was presided over by the chief coordinator, Abul Bashar Firoz.
Also present were co-coordinator Kawsar Ahmed and member Saba Khaled, among others.
