Nearly nine years after her song Nesha sparked controversy, actress and singer Kushum Shikder is back with a new original track, Probol Ghor. Her latest release raises a question: can she turn the page on the past and win over listeners once again?
Kushum wrote and sang Nesha, released in 2017. Its bold visuals drew widespread criticism, with some accusing the video of clashing with cultural values. Following a legal notice from a Supreme Court lawyer, the video was eventually removed from YouTube.
Kushum defended the song at the time, saying it was a romantic production made to international standards and contained nothing immoral. Yet the controversy became a defining moment in her musical journey.
Now, she is returning with Probol Ghor, which she also wrote. Mahmud Sunny composed and arranged the song, while model Shah Russell appears alongside her in the music video, released on Sunny’s YouTube channel.
This time, Kushum appears in a more mature and understated look, offering audiences a different image from the one associated with Nesha.
Her return to acting began in 2024 with Shoroter Joba, which marked her debut as a director. With Probol Ghor, she is taking another step towards reconnecting with audiences through music.
Whether the new song can help listeners look beyond the old controversy and appreciate her work on its own merits remains to be seen. For Kushum, the real test will be whether Probol Ghor creates a new impression that lasts beyond the memory of Nesha.
