Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, acting secretary general of BNP, has urged party leaders and activists not to sacrifice their long-standing political struggle to obtain fertiliser dealership and contracting work.

He added that the objective of politics is not to become rich overnight, but to earn and retain the trust of people.

Rizvi made the remarks on Monday while speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting organised at the National Press Club to mark the 10th death anniversary of Brigadier General (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, former member of BNP standing committee and ex-minister.

He emphasised that the conduct of BNP leaders and activists must be such that ordinary people perceive them as tolerant. He also cautioned them against behaving in the manner of the past fascist regime.

“We have all done politics. We did not engage in politics to become rich overnight. Now, if we sell out our long-standing political struggle just to obtain fertiliser dealership and contracting work, a greater achievement will not be possible,” he said.
