Actress Iffat Ara Tithi has publicly refuted claims linking her to the suicide of Afra Ibnath Khan Iqra, the late wife of actor Zaher Alvi, in a detailed Facebook post on March 4. Tithi also issued a stern warning, saying she would reveal the identities of anyone who harasses or maligns her.
Iqra’s body was found hanging at her Mirpur DOHS home on February 28. Following her death, screenshots of private chats were circulated by Iqra’s friend Nusrat Jahan Trisha, alleging that Iqra’s suicide was prompted by Alvi and Tithi’s alleged extramarital affair. Iqra’s maternal uncle, Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed, subsequently filed a case with Pallabi Police Station naming Alvi, Tithi and Alvi’s mother as accused.
Responding to the allegations, Tithi stated she had no hostile relationship with Iqra and possesses chat logs and voice recordings to substantiate her innocence. She said these records will be submitted to authorities to ensure a fair investigation.
According to Tithi, Iqra had long-standing frustrations with her own family. After separating from Alvi in 2018, Iqra reportedly wished to move abroad but received little support from her relatives. Tithi said that she had encouraged Iqra to become independent and pursue her goals, and the two shared a close bond, exchanging gifts, visiting parlours together, and even planning trips abroad.
Tithi dismissed claims that she disrupted Iqra’s family, emphasising that their relationship had been supportive. She noted that Iqra often confided in multiple people and sometimes shared suspicions about others, including a director allegedly practising black magic.
Concluding her statement, Tithi prayed for Iqra’s peace and the well-being of her young son, Rijik, reiterating her innocence in the ongoing case.
