Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has directed officials to prioritise mosquito control, waste management, and preventive measures against waterlogging ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.

The instructions were issued at a meeting on Wednesday at DNCC’s city hall conference room with regional executive officers present, according to a press release.

Speaking at the session, the DNCC chief emphasised that alongside routine municipal operations, these three areas must receive special attention to transform Dhaka into a “green and clean city.”

Officials were instructed to supervise mosquito control activities in the field three times daily and ensure proper implementation.

Streets must remain free of scattered waste, while drains and canals should be cleaned and maintained regularly.

Md Shafiqul Islam Khan urged regional officers to be actively present in their respective areas, identify local issues, and take timely initiatives to resolve them. He stressed the importance of ensuring that DNCC staff are fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.

The administrator also highlighted the need for regular cleaning of canals and drains to reduce mosquito breeding and mitigate waterlogging during the monsoon.

Areas prone to water accumulation, including Airport Road and Mirpur Road, have been identified for advance preparation.
