Josh Hazlewood removed Najmul Hossain Shanto for 84 as Australia struck with the second new ball, leaving Bangladesh 297 for four after 82 overs in Darwin.
Hazlewood bowled back of a length outside off and found extra bounce. Shanto came forward but caught the ball high on the bat, sending a thick edge towards second slip. Steven Smith held the catch safely.
Shanto had played an excellent captain’s innings, scoring 84 from 126 balls with seven fours and one six. His dismissal gives Australia the breakthrough they wanted with the new ball.
Mushfiqur Rahim now carries Bangladesh’s innings alongside Litton Das, who comes in at No. 6. Mushfiqur has scored 30 from 47 balls.
