Chattogram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia on Tuesday called upon the youth to transcend their limitations through grit and perseverance, noting that many of the world’s most successful individuals rose from difficult backgrounds.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the district-level Prime Bank National School Cricket Tournament 2025-26 at the Chattogram District Stadium, the DC urged students to harbour grand ambitions and work tirelessly to realise them.
The tournament, organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) with the cooperation of the Chattogram District Sports Association, features 11 school teams from across the district.
Addressing the participants, the DC stated that a dearth of resources or opportunities should not be a barrier to pursuing one’s dreams.
“Those who have reached the highest levels in their fields did so through struggle, sacrifice and hard work. Success comes to those who remain committed to their goals despite adversity,” he remarked.
Highlighting the role of sports in national progress, Zahidul Islam said Bangladesh could further bolster its international reputation through sporting excellence, which requires discipline, regular practice, and dedication.
He also stressed the necessity of continuous self-improvement. Comparing personal growth to technological advancement, he suggested that just as technology evolves, individuals must strive to become better versions of themselves every day.
He described the youth as the nation’s premier asset and encouraged every individual to maintain a clear ambition and the determination to turn it into reality.
The DC further pointed out that sports serve as a vital deterrent against drug abuse and excessive online gaming. He added that the government is committed to expanding sporting activities to foster a healthy, skilled, and responsible generation.
Emphasising the importance of teamwork, he noted that sports help develop cooperation, leadership, and a sense of collective responsibility – qualities he deemed essential for nation-building.
Earlier, Zahidul Islam officially inaugurated the tournament by releasing balloons and later exchanged greetings with the participating players.
