State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit on Wednesday announced that houses rendered uninhabitable by floods will be reconstructed under a government initiative to rehabilitate affected families.
The state minister made these remarks while distributing relief materials among flood-affected families in Balaghata Ambangan area of Bandarban town.
He said that the government would undertake the reconstruction of homes that have been fully or partially damaged and made unfit for living to ensure the rehabilitation of the victims.
Amit noted that initiatives would be taken to relocate families living at risk in the foothills to safer locations to minimize the loss of life and property during future natural disasters.
Addressing local infrastructure, the state minister said necessary measures would be taken to recover Myaski Canal, which is one of the primary drainage paths in Bandarban. He emphasized that restoring the canal’s flow would significantly reduce the risks of waterlogging and flash floods in the future.
Senior officials of the local administration, public representatives, political leaders, and local dignitaries were present during the event.
