After five decades in music, singer Samina Chowdhury is preparing to begin a new chapter as a mentor by launching her own music academy.
The singer, who completed 50 years in her music career this year, plans to establish Samina’s Academy of Music (SAM) to provide aspiring musicians with proper guidance and training.
Samina began her musical journey in 1976 after winning first place in the patriotic song category of Bangladesh Television’s children’s talent competition Notun Kuri.
She entered the film music industry in 1981 with the title track of Jonmo Theke Jolchi and has continued to perform and release music over the years.
As she spends part of the year in the United States, Samina plans to run the academy in both Bangladesh and the US. Classes will primarily be conducted online, with in-person lessons also available in both countries.
“The activities of Samina’s Academy of Music will mainly be conducted online. However, there will also be arrangements for those who want to learn in person,” she told Ajker Patrika.
Samina is currently in Bangladesh and plans to travel to the US on 22 September. She expects to return after two months and then complete the remaining preparations before officially announcing the academy.
She said people had encouraged her to teach music for years, while her husband, Swapon, repeatedly suggested that she establish an academy.
The SAM logo has already been designed, and Samina hopes to begin the academy’s activities later this year.
Meanwhile, she continues to work on her own music. She recently recorded a new song written by Faruk Anwar and composed by Samrat Ahmed. The song will be released on the FA Music YouTube channel.
