Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan-starrer thriller Haiwaan is struggling at the box office, earning Rs 5.5 crore net in India after two days, writes Cinema Express.
The Priyadarshan-directed film opened with Rs 3 crore on Friday before collecting Rs 2.5 crore on Saturday, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. Its domestic gross stood at Rs 6.6 crore after two days.
Haiwaan recorded 16.02 per cent Hindi occupancy across 5,759 shows on Saturday. Morning occupancy was 6.85 per cent, rising to 15.46 per cent in the afternoon and 16 per cent in the evening before reaching 25.77 per cent at night. Delhi-NCR recorded 21 per cent occupancy across 579 shows, while Mumbai registered 14.3 per cent across 379 shows.
The film marks Akshay and Saif’s reunion 18 years after Tashan (2008) and is among Akshay’s lowest openers since the pandemic. Sarfira, Selfiee, Bell Bottom and Mission Raniganj opened to Rs2.5 crore, Rs2.55 crore, Rs 2.7 crore and Rs2.8 crore, respectively.
Akshay and Priyadarshan’s previous collaboration, Bhooth Bangla, performed much better, opening at Rs28.7 crore and earning Rs271 crore worldwide during its run.
Haiwaan is also facing competition from Hanuman Ansh and Mirzapur: The Movie, with the latter earning around Rs245 crore so far.
The film has also received a mixed critical response. A Cinema Express review said the thriller’s intended tension was undermined by its comedy, leaving audiences laughing during scenes meant to be frightening.
