The government has decided that the duration of basic training for cadre officers would be reduced to four months from six months.
Of the duration, three months will be spent at training institutions, with one month dedicated to field orientation and village attachment.
In addition, the maximum age limit for admission to Master’s and PhD courses has been raised from 45 to 47 years.
The decision was taken at the 9th meeting of the National Training Council held with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair on Wednesday.

For those pursuing a PhD, annual progress reports must be submitted to the relevant ministry, certified by the supervisor. Failure to do so will result in suspension of the officer’s salary.
The chief adviser emphasised the importance of evaluating all government training centres. He called for the establishment of specific standards to assess the type and quality of training provided, suggesting that each centre be ranked according to these criteria and monitored regularly.
He further proposed the formation of an independent unit to assess all research institutions systematically. This unit would ensure that research centres are operating according to their intended purpose and manage the information of government officials who have undergone foreign training.
The meeting also decided to rename the “Sanjeebani Training” to “Skills Renewal Training”. This training will be conducted with updated curricula at both government and private sector institutions in the field.
A research, monitoring, and evaluation activity will be conducted to assess the overall effectiveness of training programmes and institutions.
Furthermore, an executive committee, led by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, will be formed.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Foreign Affairs Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain, Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr Mokhlesur Rahman and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Niyaz Ahmed Khan.
