The government has initiated steps to bring back the bodies of two Bangladeshi migrants killed in Saudi Arabia and another worker who died in Bahrain, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment said on Monday.
In a press release, the ministry said the bodies of the two victims in Saudi Arabia will be brought back to Bangladesh once the Saudi authorities issue the necessary clearance.
It also said the body of Bangladeshi expatriate SM Tareq, who died in Bahrain, will be repatriated after flight operations resume on that route.
Earlier on Monday morning, the body of Bangladeshi migrant worker Ahmad Ali, who was killed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, arrived in Dhaka.
Authorities received the body at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the presence of State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, and the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
According to the ministry, Ahmad Ali hailed from Borolekha upazila of Moulvibazar district. After completing formalities at the airport, the senior secretary and the Director General of the Welfare Board left with the body for the victim’s village home.
Meanwhile, the ministry said it has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take steps to extend the visas of Bangladeshi workers who returned home from the Middle East on leave but could not travel back due to the ongoing conflict. Many of their visas have expired while they remain stranded in Bangladesh.
The information was disclosed in separate press statements issued by Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Public Relations Officer (Senior Information Officer) of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
