A Bangladeshi national has been killed and three others injured in Bahrain following missile and drone attacks across the Middle East.
The deceased, Md Tarek, 48, was a resident of the Azimpur Pahar area in Chattogram’s Sandwip upazila.
According to his family, he was seriously injured in the attack while on duty at a shipyard in Bahrain early Monday morning local time and died at the scene. Other expatriates reported that the missile responsible for the attack was fired from Iran.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death and said the Bangladesh Mission in Manama is in contact with local authorities regarding the incident.
Tarek had been working in Bahrain for nearly 27 years. As the sole breadwinner of his family, he regularly sent remittances home, and his income supported the household.
His cousin Mosharaf Hossain, Deputy Managing Director of Chattogram Maa‑O‑Shishu Hospital, said the tragic death has brought deep sorrow to Sandwip. Locals have demanded that his body be repatriated to Bangladesh without delay.
Another Bangladeshi was killed in the United Arab Emirates in an attack on Saturday. Saleh Ahmed, from Baralekha in Sylhet, lost his life in Ajman after being struck by debris from an aerial attack on a civilian installation.
Saleh is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter. News of his death brought deep grief to his village home. Neighbours said Saleh was the family’s sole breadwinner, and his relatives are now worried about the children’s future.
Moniruzzaman Khan, officer‑in‑charge of Barlekha Police Station, said they have learned of his death in the explosion in Ajman. The body is being preserved there, but due to disrupted flight operations, repatriation may take some time.
Arrangements will be made to bring the body home once the necessary procedures are completed, he added.
The Embassy of Bangladesh in the UAE is in close contact with local authorities and is extending necessary assistance to repatriate the body once commercial flights resume, according to the press release.
In Kuwait, four Bangladeshi nationals — Aminul Islam from Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria; Rabiul Islam from Sathia, Pabna; Masudur Rahman from Begumganj, Noakhali; and Dulal Miah from Chandina, Cumilla — sustained injuries following a drone attack near the civilian airport.
They have received medical treatment and are currently reported to be in stable condition. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait remains in regular contact with them, and the Ambassador personally visited them at the hospital, the release said.
The Bangladesh government reiterated its deep concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East and said it continues to monitor developments closely.
Ensuring the safety and security of more than six million Bangladeshis living in the Middle East remains the government’s top priority. Embassies in the affected countries have been instructed to issue advisories urging nationals to remain vigilant and strictly follow guidance from host governments.
