The Power Division has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Palli Bidyut Samiti officials to rejoin work otherwise it will take legal action, a power division press release read.
The release, signed by Power division’ public relations officer Mohammad Shafiullah, stated that uninterrupted electricity supply is an essential service, any obstruction or disruption in providing this service is a punishable offense under the Essential Services Act.
“All officers and employees engaged in electricity supply in rural areas who are absent under the pretext of a mass leave are hereby instructed to return to their respective workplaces within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against them,” it warns.
The release mentions that efforts are underway to address the demands of the officers and employees of the Palli Bidyut Samiti. The government is taking the matter with utmost seriousness.
In May, employees and workers of Palli Bidyut Samity had begun work abstention and held demonstrations across the country to press home their seven-point demand, including removal of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board chair.
