The scanning process of postal ballots received in Gazipur has been temporarily suspended following reports of technical issues.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Alam Hossain said registration was completed for 22,997 expatriate voters from the district to cast their votes through postal ballots.

He said the receipt of postal ballots sent by mail began on Sunday, and so far 50 postal ballots have been received.

When the ballots were scanned to verify their validity, reports showed they had not been filled in correctly, he said.

He said the matter was communicated to the relevant wing of the Election Commission, which indicated the issue could be due to a mechanical fault and advised suspending the process for the time being.

Following the instruction, the district administration has suspended the scanning of received postal ballots in Gazipur, the returning officer said.
