Two passengers died and at least eight sustained serious injuries in Palashbari, Gaibandha around 6:30am on Thursday.
The accident occurred when a Kazi Line passenger bus, speeding in dense fog, crashed into a cement-laden truck from behind near the Gareya Bridge area on Gaibandha-Palashbari regional highway, said Palashbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarwar Alam Khan.
He added that one of the deceased has been identified as Jamil, 17, from Dhanshala village in Pirgonj, Rangpur.
The identity of the other deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Kazi Line night coach reached the Gareya Bridge area and then collided at high speed with the truck from behind.
The impact severely crushed the front right side of the bus. Locals rescued all the victims and sent them to various hospitals. Upon receiving news of the accident, Palashbari Police Station and Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene and conducted rescue operations.
After investigation, necessary legal action will be taken regarding the incident.
