A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was killed by a gunshot at the Kurigram border. The BGB has claimed that he died by “suicide” using his own service rifle.
The incident took place around midnight on Friday at the Gongghat border under Sadar Union of Phulbari upazila. The deceased was identified as Nasim Uddin, who was serving as a soldier with Lalmonirhat BGB 15 Battalion.
Phulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Hasan confirmed the information.
According to BGB and police sources, Nasim Uddin was on patrol at the Gongghat Border Outpost (BOP) at the time of his death. At around 12:45am, a gunshot sound was heard near the MT garage behind the soldiers’ line of the BOP.
A nearby patrol team, responding to the sound, found Sepoy Nasir Uddin lying behind the garage with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was quickly rescued and taken to Phulbari Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Police arrived at the hospital around 3:30am after receiving the information. Both police and the BGB suspect that Nasim Uddin may have died by “suicide” using his own rifle, though the exact reason behind the suspected suicide could not be confirmed.
Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Hasan said, “The BGB has stated that the sepoy may have committed suicide using his service rifle. An unnatural death case has been filed in this connection, and the body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination.”
Attempts were made to contact the commander of BGB 35 Battalion in this regard, but he could not be reached. Calls and messages to his number went unanswered, and no official statement from the BGB was available.
