The government has mandated a 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption for vehicles assigned to the prime minister, ministers, and state ministers. This decision forms part of a series of austerity measures designed to curb public spending during the international energy crisis.
Presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Cabinet finalised these measures during a meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad complex on Thursday night. The Cabinet Division subsequently detailed the new protocols during a press briefing on Friday.
Under the new directives, monthly fuel allocations for government transport will be cut by 30 percent, and a similar 30 percent reduction will be applied to the consumption of electricity and gas within government offices.
The administration has implemented an immediate freeze on the procurement of all public sector vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, and computers.
The Cabinet has also ordered significant cuts to building maintenance budgets, reducing expenditure on the beautification of non-residential buildings by 50 percent and residential buildings by 20 percent.
Additionally, all processes related to land acquisition have been suspended for the time being.
