The government is taking active steps to promote all types of sports in Bangladesh, not only cricket and football, according to State Minister Aminul Haque. Speaking at the inauguration of the 8th National Surfing Competition, held at Laboni Point on Cox’s Bazar beach on Friday, Haque highlighted the commitment to supporting athletes and sporting federations across the country.

He noted that many athletes have already been brought under formal salary schemes, while financially weaker federations are receiving essential support. Surfers who perform strongly at international competitions may also be included in the salary framework in the future, he added.

This year’s competition has attracted over one hundred surfers across three categories. Organisers hope the event will increase the popularity and competitiveness of surfing in Bangladesh, while boosting the country’s international sporting profile.

The inauguration was chaired by District Commissioner Abdul Mannan and attended by several distinguished guests, including Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Lutfor Rahman Kajol, Bangladesh Surfing Association President Major General (Retd.) A K M Mujahid Uddin, Senior Vice President Khandakar Saiful Islam, and QT sponsor representative Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal.
