State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit on Friday announced that fuel oil sales via a rationing system will commence this Sunday to maintain long-term supply stability.
The state minister shared the plan on Friday while speaking to reporters after inspecting a petrol pump in the capital’s Paribagh area. He stated that written instructions regarding the rationing measures would be issued to petrol pumps shortly.
Despite the introduction of rationing, Amit emphasised that there is no shortage of fuel oil in the country and that sufficient stocks are currently available. He urged the public not to engage in panic buying or hoarding unnecessary amounts of fuel.
Amit attributed recent public anxiety to the prevailing global “state of war”, noting that it is natural for people to feel concerned under such circumstances.
He observed that fuel supply has been significantly higher than normal over the past few days because many consumers are purchasing more than their actual requirements. He called for public awareness to help dispel this panic.
Addressing the economic impact, Amit noted that abnormal price hikes in the international market have created considerable pressure.
While the government is striving to keep domestic prices stable and avoid increases, Amit mentioned that a price adjustment might be shared with the public if it becomes absolutely necessary.
He reaffirmed that the government remains committed to coordinating the situation to protect consumers from the pressure of rising international prices.
