Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer and opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman, has claimed that the party was not consulted about any agreements made with foreign countries during the tenure of the interim government.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Jamaat ameer expressed his dissatisfaction over the government’s failure to engage his party in discussions about these critical deals.
He wrote, “During the time of the interim government, several agreements were signed with foreign nations. Regrettably, the government did not discuss any of these agreements with us.”
Shafiqur Rahman further highlighted that Jamaat had repeatedly called for political parties to be involved in important decisions, particularly during the absence of a functioning parliament.
“Just as the government had engaged with political parties on national matters, similarly, discussions on major international agreements should have involved all political parties. However, the government disregarded our repeated requests,” he added.
Emphasizing the clarity of their stance, Shafiqur Rahman stated that Jamaat’s position on the issue remains firm, with no room for ambiguity.
The remarks come as discussions intensify regarding a trade agreement between Bangladesh and the United States.
The deal has sparked significant debate, especially after Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman revealed that both BNP and Jamaat had shown support for the agreement, prompting widespread discussion on the matter.
