Fire Service and Civil Defence marked International Firefighters Day on 4 May with a reception and awards ceremony at its headquarters in Dhaka, where Director General Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal NDC AFWC PSC called for joint efforts to build a transparent, accountable and service-oriented institution, the agency said in a press release.
The programme began at 10am with a darbar attended by officers and staff of all ranks, followed by an awards segment where 80 personnel from across the country received professional recognition and 73 children of employees who secured GPA 5 were given educational honours.
Director of Training, Planning and Development Lieutenant Colonel MA Azad Anwar PSC formally handed over the darbar after paying respects to the Director General.
A recitation from the holy scripture was delivered by Cox’s Bazar Fire Station Leader Mo Kudrat Ullah.
The Director General paid tribute to firefighters worldwide and prayed for the departed before outlining initiatives and development work undertaken during his tenure.
He urged cooperation in implementing the nationwide e-fire licence system launched from 1 May and pledged transparent recruitment in upcoming hiring processes.
He expressed satisfaction with operational performance in responding to incidents nationwide and thanked personnel for their efforts.
He also called on all members to uphold the organisation’s reputation and directed necessary steps to implement government commitments relevant to the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
He listened to opinions from personnel attending in person and online and responded to their queries during the darbar.
The second phase began at 11am, where 10 awardees from Dhaka Division were among the 80 recipients who received crests, certificates and financial awards for bravery and operational excellence.
Among the 73 students who achieved GPA 5 in SSC and HSC examinations in 2025, 17 from the headquarters and Dhaka Division received crests and cash awards, while divisional deputy directors handed over the remaining awards in their respective regions.
Three recipients shared their reactions, and the Director General joined a photo session with awardees.
Director of Administration and Finance Mo Shahid Atahar Hossain later addressed the programme and thanked participants attending both in person and online.
Directors, project directors, welfare trust management officials and Dhaka-based personnel attended physically, while divisional deputy directors and district officials joined virtually.
The event concluded at 12pm.
