A fire incident has occurred in two abandoned warehouses of the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in Sylhet.

BTCL sources reported that a fire broke out in two semi-pucca buildings used by the BTCL office for storing old materials, located next to the Bangladesh Bank, Sylhet, in the city’s Taaltola area.

The fire started around 6:15pm on Wednesday. Upon receiving the news, three units of the Fire Service arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control after nearly half an hour of effort.

BTCL’s DGM Mihir Roy said that it is initially suspected the fire originated from a short circuit. The estimated damage is around Tk2 lakh. The matter will be investigated further.

Meanwhile, Senior Station Officer Mohammad Qutub Uddin of Taaltola Fire Service stated that it was merely an accident. The initial investigation found no signs of sabotage.

However, he mentioned that a detailed investigation will still be conducted into the matter.
