A frontliner of the July uprising in Faridpur has voluntarily sought to withdraw his name from the government gazette, citing disillusionment with ongoing corruption and administrative irregularities.
Abrar Nadim Itu, 27, who was enlisted under the “GA” (injured) category in the gazette published on 5 March, 2025, gazette number 2489, submitted an application to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday.
The request was received by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Sohrab Hossain, who also heads the July Verification Committee on behalf of the DC.
In his written statement to the DC, Itu recounted being injured during the July 2024 uprising. He wrote, “I am deeply disappointed the current interim government and local authorities have failed, for over a year, to uphold the July ideals of a corruption- and loot-free nation. Political parties too display inconsistencies in their actions.”
Itu alleged corruption and irregularities persist across administrative and service sectors in Faridpur, with entrenched syndicates continuing to operate. “For these reasons, I formally withdraw my name from the government gazette and decline any monthly allowance, which I have not even received.”
Speaking to journalists, Itu said, “We fought to see a fair and just nation, but our aspirations are unfulfilled. The interim government and local bodies have taken no effective steps to realise the July spirit. Corruption continues, and personal interests dominate.”
He also shared details of his family’s hardships. His father, Azad Abul Kalam, a retired headmaster of Hajiganj High School in Charbhadrasan, has struggled to access his pension since retiring in October 2022.
“The previous government withheld his pension for two years, and despite repeated visits to various offices over the past 13 months under the interim government, we have been unable to claim it. The same corruption is visible in other departments, including education and healthcare.”
Confirming the matter, ADC Sohrab Hossain said, “We have received the request for voluntary withdrawal from the July government gazette and all associated benefits. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with procedures.”
