Bangladesh women’s cricket team will travel to India in December for a bilateral series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. The matches are part of the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) and are expected to be played in mid-December.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Nigar Sultana Joty will lead the Bangladesh side during the tour. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the series, though discussions between the two boards are still ongoing. Kolkata and Cuttack are being considered as possible venues for the matches.
The series will mark the beginning of a new cycle of the Women’s ODI Championship, following the ongoing Women’s ODI World Cup. A BCB spokesperson said that Bangladesh could leave for India around December 14 or 15. “Both boards are yet to finalize the schedule, but the BCCI has asked us to start preparations for that time,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the Women’s National Cricket League is set to begin on November 8. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has decided to skip the domestic event to work on her fitness. Spinner Nahida Akter and pacer Marufa Akter will also miss the tournament due to workload management.
Bangladesh had a tough run in the recent Women’s World Cup. They began with a victory against Pakistan but lost six of their next seven matches. The final group match against India was washed out, leaving Bangladesh in seventh place out of eight teams.
Both Nahida and Marufa picked up injuries during the World Cup and will need rest and rehabilitation before returning to action.
