Could Major Ram be making a comeback? Farah Khan has sparked fresh buzz around a possible sequel to Main Hoon Na after actor Arjun Kapoor publicly called for a follow-up to the 2004 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer.
According to NDTV, Arjun recently shared an Instagram Story while watching Main Hoon Na on television in a hotel. Calling it one of his all-time favourite films, he wrote, “The joy of watching your all-time favourite film randomly on TV as you check into a hotel in this digital era… We need a sequel asap!!!” He also tagged Farah.
The filmmaker reposted his Story and replied, “Hahaha… agar kisi cheez ko dil se maango…” The line echoes Shah Rukh Khan’s famous dialogue from Farah’s 2007 film Om Shanti Om, adding fuel to the sequel speculation.
Rumours about Main Hoon Na 2 surfaced earlier after Farah announced that her next directorial venture would be with Shah Rukh. She dismissed those reports at the time.
Farah has, however, recently offered an update on her return to filmmaking. During a visit to actor Nakuul Mehta’s Mumbai home for a vlog, she said she would return to direction after her children leave for college.
“Abhi banaungi main! Abhi bachche chaley jayenge na college fir banaungi! There is a whole petition on the internet called Wapas Aao Farah Khan,” she said, adding that she expected to start towards the end of the year.
For now, Farah’s exchange with Arjun has revived interest in Main Hoon Na 2, but it does not confirm that a sequel is in development.
Main Hoon Na, released in 2004, marked Farah’s directorial debut. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Suniel Shetty, Amrita Rao and Zayed Khan in leading roles.
The story follows Major Ram, who goes undercover as a college student while carrying out a military mission. The film became a major commercial success and remains one of the popular Hindi films of the 2000s.
