Former ASI Amir Hossain, one of the convicts sentenced to death in the Abu Sayed killing case, locked into a scuffle with police after the verdict.
Immediately after the judgment was delivered by the International Crimes Tribunal-2, Amir Hossain shouted repeatedly, saying, “I do not accept this verdict.”
He later began chanting “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu,” before police quickly escorted him out of the court premises.
The ICT-2 handed down the death penalty to Amir Hossain and former constable Sujan Chandra Roy. Three others—Arifuzzaman, Bibhutibhushan, and Robiul Islam—were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The case had been pending for judgment since 27 January, following arguments from both prosecution and defense.
In total, 30 people were accused in the case, including former Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur vice-chancellor Hasibur Rashid. Six, including former Proctor Shariful Islam, are in custody, while the remaining 24 are still absconding.
