The Bangladesh Football Federation is moving ahead with the new domestic season despite concerns raised by several clubs over the schedule.
The BFF has told clubs that the league will begin on September 18, while the Federation Cup will start on September 22. The Federation Cup draw is scheduled for Saturday.
Several clubs led by Mohammedan Sporting Club recently wrote to the BFF demanding an uninterrupted league. They also called for changes to the league committee.
Bashundhara Kings president and league committee chairman Imrul Hassan has called a committee meeting at the BFF headquarters on Saturday.
Mohammedan director of sports Mostakur Rahman said the clubs will discuss the situation before announcing their position.
“Today is Friday and everyone is busy with personal and family matters. We will discuss this tomorrow morning and then announce our position,” Mostakur said.
The schedule could create problems for clubs with players in the Bangladesh squad. The national team will leave for Indonesia on September 19, while the FIFA international window begins the following day.
Mohammedan have nine players in the national team, while Bashundhara Kings, Abahani and Fortis also have several players in the squad.
This means some clubs could begin the domestic season without key players. The national camp has also stopped them from training with their full squads.
