Bangladesh added 53 runs in the first hour of the fourth day against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, reaching 132/9 and extending their lead to 159 runs.
Resuming at 79/6 with a 106-run advantage, they lost Jaker Ali, Hasan Mahmud and Taijul Islam, but Nayeem Hasan remained unbeaten on 49 to lead the resistance before rain interrupted the play
Jaker, who came in as Mominul Haque’s concussion substitute, scored 22 off 34 balls, including two four, before falling to Jomel Warrican’s flighted delivery, caught by Roston Chase at first slip. He shared a 31-run stand off 50 balls with Nayeem.
Hasan survived 31 deliveries before becoming Warrican’s fourth victim, trapped lbw for eight. A review upheld the on-field decision.
Taijul Islam added 17 runs with Nayeem before falling lbw to Chase for eight off 16 balls, making the off-spinner’s fourth victim of the innings.
Bangladesh had suffered a dramatic collapse on the third day, losing six wickets after reaching 53. Tanzid Hasan fell for a duck, Shadman Islam made 13 and Towhid Hridoy departed cheaply for a duck to Chase. Najmul Hossain Shanto who got out for 10 was Chase’s third victim before Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell to Warrican.
