Bangladesh’s film industry has entered new territory with the premiere of ‘Gaap’, billed as the country’s first AI-powered film, at Star Cineplex’s SKS Tower branch in Dhaka on Saturday.
Directed by Mabrur Rashid Bannah, the psychological thriller-horror film premiered at 5pm, followed by a second screening at 6pm.
Bannah and members of the production team attended the event, along with actress Dilara Zaman, content creator Salman Muqtadir and other guests.
Produced by Akbor Haider Munna, ‘Gaap’ features Arch Sheehab, Bannah, Rizvi Riju, Sinthia Yasmin Nupur, Misti Ghosh, Momena Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Rafi and Jahangir Alam. Veteran actors Abul Hayat, Dilara Zaman and Khairul Alam Sabuj were also among those present.
Artificial intelligence played a major role in the production, from screenplay development and character creation to animation, background music and visual effects. The team used various AI tools to generate scenes for the film.
Before its premiere, the Bangladesh Film Certification Board granted ‘Gaap’ uncut clearance under the short film category.
Bannah described the project as an experiment in AI-driven filmmaking, saying the team wanted to explore its creative possibilities despite limited budgets and manpower.
