Police detained two alleged activists of Awami League, whose political activities are currently banned, on Friday as they reportedly attempted to bring out a procession in Gulshan before Jumma prayers.
The two detainees were identified as Arafat, 20, and Abdur Rahim, 49.
Five unexploded crude bombs were recovered from the area, police said.
According to police, a group of Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists gathered near Police Plaza in Gulshan and tried to bring out a procession. Police later dispersed them.
People in the group were heard chanting slogans, while five crude bombs explosions also occurred at the scene, according to police. Md Mokhlesur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Gulshan Police Station, said the two were being questioned in police custody.
“Legal proceedings against them are underway,” he said.
