With the 13th National Parliamentary Election approaching, election campaigning by candidates in Dinajpur’s six constituencies has gained significant momentum.
Leaders from different political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, are engaging in daily public outreach to present their positions to voters.
The BNP has announced candidates for all six seats in Dinajpur. Jamaat-e-Islami has been active in the field for some time as well. While the Jatiya Party has expressed its intention to participate locally, it is still awaiting a decision from the party’s central committee.
Islamic Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, BSD, the National Citizen Party (NCP), and Gono Odhikar Parishad are also preparing ahead of the polls slated for February.
Dinajpur-1 constituency
In Dinajpur-1 (Birganj-Kaharol), the BNP has nominated Manjurul Islam, a member of its Central Krishak Dal committee, for this seat. Jamaat, on the other hand, has nominated Motiur Rahman.
Both have stated they are regularly reaching out to voters and receiving encouraging responses. Potential candidates from Islamic Andolan, Khelafat Majlish, BSD, Gono Odhikar Parishad, and the NCP are also campaigning.
Dinajpur-2 constituency
For Dinajpur-2 (Birol-Bochaganj), discontent arose among other BNP nomination hopefuls after Sadique Riaz Chowdhury received the party’s nomination for this seat. However, he stated that everyone respects the party’s decision.
Jamaat has, for the first time, nominated AKM Afzalul Anam for this constituency. He is regularly active on the campaign trail. Potential candidates from other parties are also conducting campaigns.
Dinajpur-3 constituency
In Dinajpur-3 (Sadar), District BNP President Mofazzal Hossain Dulal said local leaders have united since the party nominated Khaleda Zia.
Given Khaleda’s family roots in Dinajpur, this constituency has long been considered a BNP stronghold. Leaders from other parties, including Mainul Alam from Jamaat, Islamic Andolan, Khelafat Majlish, BSD, and the NCP, are also regularly present in the field.
Dinajpur-4 constituency
For Dinajpur-4 (Khansama-Chirirbandar), the BNP has nominated former MP Akhtaruzzaman Mia.
He is highlighting his long experience of working in the area. Jamaat candidate Aftab Uddin Mollah is contesting for the third time. Potential candidates from religion-based and smaller parties are also campaigning.
Dinajpur-5 constituency
In Dinajpur-5 (Fulbari-Parbatipur), Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman has received the BNP nomination for this constituency. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Anwar Hossain has been active in the field for some time.
Additionally, potential candidates from the NCP, Khelafat Majlish, BSD, and the Gono Odhikar Parishad are holding courtyard meetings and conducting public outreach in the area.
Dinajpur-6 constituency
For Dinajpur-6 (Birampur-Nawabganj-Ghoraghat-Hakimpur), Jamaat’s Anwarul Islam has been campaigning in this constituency for a long time. The BNP candidate here is Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the party’s Standing Committee and Khaleda Zia’s physician.
While he is almost constantly engaged in Khaleda Zia’s treatment in the capital, he is taking time to attend meetings and gatherings in the constituency.
Leaders from the AB Party, BSD, Islamic Andolan, Khelafat Majlish, Gono Odhikar Parishad, and the NCP have also intensified their activities ahead of the election.
Potential candidates from various parties are actively engaging with voters across all six constituencies in Dinajpur. Overall, the electoral atmosphere is gradually heating up.
