Eastern Bank (EBL) PLC has launched Visa Payment Passkey in Bangladesh, allowing its cardholders to authenticate online payments through biometrics or device credentials instead of traditional one-time passwords.
The service was unveiled in partnership with Visa at EBL’s head office in Gulshan, Dhaka, to make online transaction verification faster, safer and more convenient, the bank said in a press release.
Visa Payment Passkey uses device-based authentication to reduce payment friction and improve transaction success rates while strengthening security for online purchases.
The launch reflects EBL’s continuing focus on secure, seamless and customer-centred digital payment services.
Sabbir Ahmed, Visa Country Manager, and Tawfique Imam, Head of Products for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, attended the ceremony.
EBL was represented by M Khorshed Anowar, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Retail and SME Banking; Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury, Head of Digital Financial Services; Tasnim Hussain, Head of Cards; and Faisal M Fathe-Ul Islam, Head of Digital Payments, among others.
