Dolly Parton has spoken publicly for the first time in months, offering fans an update on her wellbeing as she returned to the spotlight in 2026.
The country music legend addressed the audience while delivering a keynote speech at the opening day of her Tennessee theme park, Dollywood, on March 13.
During her remarks, she revealed that she had stepped back from touring after dealing with several health concerns and a period of emotional strain.
Parton explained that the past year had taken a toll, particularly as she continued to process the loss of her husband, Carl Dean, who died last March after nearly six decades of marriage. She said the time away from the public eye had allowed her to focus on regaining her strength mentally, emotionally and physically.
Although the singer acknowledged that the challenges had been difficult, she told the audience that she now felt ready to move forward. According to Parton, the quieter period had also given her the opportunity to reflect, write and prepare new creative projects for the year ahead.
Despite her reduced public appearances, the singer has remained active behind the scenes. Earlier this year she marked her 80th birthday by releasing a new version of her 1977 song ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’ alongside artists including Queen Latifah, Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus.
She also appeared in a recorded tribute honouring Ozzy Osbourne at the BRIT Awards, where the rock singer received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Parton indicated that fans can expect more from her in the coming months, suggesting that she has been preparing a series of new projects and creative work during her time away.
