The Airport Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered a stolen motorcycle and detained one individual during a traffic inspection at the Airport Outgoing Y-Crossing in the capital.
The detainee has been identified as Ariful Sagar, 30.
According to sources from Traffic-Uttara Division, on Tuesday around 9pm, duty officers at the Y-Crossing stopped a motorcyclist for riding without a helmet. When asked to produce the vehicle’s valid documents, the rider was unable to do so and exhibited suspicious signs of nervousness.
As the officers attempted to verify the registration number to identify the actual owner, the suspect suddenly attempted to flee. Following a chase, he was apprehended about half a kilometre away from the spot.
During initial interrogation, the detainee admitted that the motorcycle, bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-La-32-4999, was stolen.
He was subsequently handed over to the Airport Police Station along with the recovered vehicle, and legal proceedings against him are currently underway.
Information from the Airport Police Station further revealed that Ariful was also involved in the theft of another motorcycle from the Airport area around six months ago, as well as a gold theft incident in Bashundhara Residential Area.
