The Traffic Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has apprehended a youth on charges of extorting money from rickshaw pullers by posing as a journalist in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Sajib Pathan Samrat, 28.
Sources from Traffic Wari Division said on Wednesday, while performing their duties at the Jatrabari intersection, traffic police personnel learned that a man was identifying himself as a newspaper journalist to collect money from rickshaw pullers under various pretexts.
Based on this information, the police conducted a raid and caught Samrat red-handed.
During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that Samrat had obtained a journalist identity card from another individual to facilitate his impersonation of a member of the press.
