A total of 439 new patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country with dengue fever in the last 24 hours, while one person died from the viral disease during the same period. With this latest fatality, the total death toll from dengue this year has risen to 40.
The figures were released in a press statement on the dengue situation issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the DGHS, of the 439 new cases, 87 patients were hospitalised in various government and private hospitals within Dhaka city.
Outside the capital, 164 new patients were admitted in Dhaka division, 75 in Chattogram division, 83 in Barisal division, 41 in Khulna division, 30 in Rangpur division, 26 in Rajshahi division, and one in Sylhet division.
While cases were reported in Mymensingh division, the number of new patients there was lower than in other divisions.
From 1 January to 25 July 2026, the total number of dengue infections in the country reached 12,640.
Statistical analysis indicates that 61.4 per cent of those infected were male and 38.6 per cent were female. However, the mortality rate is notably higher among women; of the 40 total deaths, 57.5 per cent were female and 42.5 per cent were male.
The health directorate further informed that 11,497 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery so far this year. Currently, 1,103 dengue patients remain under treatment in various government and private hospitals nationwide.
The report highlights an alarming rise in both infection and mortality rates in recent months after a relatively quiet start to the year. Hospital admissions were recorded at 1,081 in January, 409 in February, 353 in March, 640 in April, 714 in May, and 2,907 in June.
The surge has peaked this month, with 6,536 patients hospitalised up to 25 July. the month has also seen the highest monthly fatality count, with 22 deaths recorded so far.
