Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, paid a courtesy call on Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain at his office in Dhaka on Monday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector, the finalisation of a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), pharmaceuticals, and skill development for healthcare professionals.
Discussions were also held on expanding bilateral trade in surgical equipment and pharmaceutical products.
Speaking on the occasion, Sakhawat noted that Bangladesh has the potential to further boost its exports of vaccines and cancer medicines to Pakistan. He also invited Pakistani entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities within Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.
Meanwhile, Imran briefed the minister on various proposals regarding cooperation in organ transplantation between the health sectors of both countries.
He informed that the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has expressed interest in providing training to Bangladeshi doctors on liver transplantation. Furthermore, the institute has proposed offering assistance for future liver transplant surgeries in Bangladesh, alongside providing post-surgery healthcare services through telemedicine.
