The spread of dengue in the country sees a surge, with the number of infections and deaths showing an upward trend.
In the last 24 hours, 782 new patients were admitted to hospitals after being infected with dengue. With this, the total number of patients admitted with dengue this year has reached 50,689.
During the same period, three more people have died, increasing the total death toll to 215.
The Directorate General of Health Services reported that among the three who died in the 24 hours from 8AM Sunday, one died while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital, one at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and one at Mugda Medical College Hospital.
Among the deceased were two men and one woman, aged 35, 85, and 28 years respectively.
In September of this year, 15,866 people were admitted to hospitals and 76 people died, which is the highest number of infections and deaths for the year. In the first five days of October, 3,347 people were admitted to hospitals and 14 people died.
In January, 1,161 people; in February, 374; in March, 336; in April, 701; in May, 1,773; in June, 5,951 people were admitted to hospitals with dengue cases.
July saw a heightened outbreak of dengue, with 10,684 patients hospitalised. In August, 10,496 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals.
As many as 39 dengue patients died in August, 41 in July, 19 in June,
three in May, seven in April, three in February, and 10 in January. The Health Directorate did not report any dengue-related death information for March.
Of the patients admitted in the last 24 hours, the highest number, 211, are from the areas of the two city corporations in Dhaka. Furthermore, 142 were admitted in Dhaka Division, 35 in Mymensingh, 83 in Chattogram, 57 in Khulna, 84 in Rajshahi, 11 in Rangpur, 178 in Barishal, and five patients were admitted in Sylhet.
Currently, 2,473 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the country. Among them, 851 are receiving treatment in Dhaka, and 1,622 outside Dhaka.
The Directorate General of Health Services has been maintaining records of dengue infections and deaths in the country since the year 2000. Among these, the most severe year was 2023. That year, 321,179 people were admitted to hospitals and 1,705 people died.
