BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said that, like any child, he feels a deep longing for his mother’s affectionate touch during this crisis.
The decision to return home is not fully open or solely within his control right now, he also said.
Tarique, son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook page around 8:45am on Saturday.
He said, “There is limited scope to elaborate on this sensitive matter. Our family remains hopeful that once the political realities reach the expected stage, my long and anxious wait for returning home will finally come to an end.”
BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Doctors and party members have said that her physical condition is “very critical”. News of the party chief’s serious illness has caused deep concern among leaders and activists. Many believe that, considering his mother’s condition, Tarique may return to the country soon.
In his Facebook post, Tarique has urged everyone to continue prayers for Khaleda’s speedy recovery. He said, the chief adviser expressed prayers for her recovery along with a pledge of full support for her treatment.
He wrote that as before, medical teams from home and abroad are providing care with the highest professionalism as well as utmost sincerity. Several friendly nations have also expressed “the desire to extend advanced treatment and all possible cooperation.”
“On behalf of the Zia family, we extend sincere thanks and deep gratitude to everyone for their heartfelt prayers and affection toward the revered Begum Khaleda Zia. At the same time, we make an earnest request to continue prayers for her swift recovery,” he wrote.
