Crude bombs and arson attacks rocked several parts of Dhaka, leaving the capital on edge ahead of a high-profile verdict in a case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Police said unidentified assailants targeted Titumir College, Amtali, Merul Badda, Sohrawardy Udyan. A bomb was hurled at the main gate of Titumir College, while another exploded at the Amtali intersection, according to Banani Police Station sub-inspector Jane Alam.

At roughly the same time, a bus parked beside the water tank near BRAC University in Merul Badda was set on fire. Local residents acted quickly to extinguish the flames before they could spread. No casualties were reported in any of the incidents.

The attacks come amid rising tension ahead of the verdict in the first case filed against Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity during the student-led mass uprising of 2024. Sporadic arson attacks and crude bomb blasts have been reported across the city in recent days.

On Sunday night, two crude bombs were hurled outside the residence of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, around 9:00pm. Additional blasts followed in Banglamotor at 9:45pm. Later, three explosions in Shyampur injured a man identified as Mehedi. Further blasts were reported around 10:00pm in Gabtoli and at the Mohakhali rail crossing.

Earlier on Monday, another crude bomb exploded near the Ramna Kali Temple in Sohrawardy Udyan at around 10am. Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Khalid Monsur said the explosion occurred against a wall near the railway dumping area beside the temple. Police secured the area and launched an investigation.

No casualties were reported. Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the coordinated attacks are ongoing.
